Social security committed to promoting honesty, integrity

David Uirab,

The Social Security Commission (SSC) says it is committed to promoting honesty and integrity among employees and commissioners, as well as instilling a culture of being ethical and intolerant of fraud and corruption.

This was said by the chairperson of the commission, David Uirab, when he launched the SSC’s customer service charter and fraud hotline in Windhoek yesterday.

“It is imperative that we uphold our core values of being customer-centric, innovative, maintaining integrity and exhibiting resilience,” he said.

Addressing a hybrid event attended by commissioners, SSC chief executive Milka Mungunda and workers, which also linked the commission’s branches outside Windhoek, Uirab said the commission is guided by the principles set forth in the Social Security Commission Act of 1994 and the Employee Compensation Fund Act of 1941.

“These legislative frameworks underscore our responsibility to effectively manage all funds, ensuring that the benefits reach every deserving member of our society,” he said.

He said the Customer Service Charter is testament to the commission’s dedication to providing transparent, efficient and member-centric services, and also outlines the diverse array of services and products offered by the commission, reaffirming its commitment to being a leading, trusted and innovative social security service provider.

“Our core values, rooted in being customer-centric, promoting innovation, upholding integrity and demonstrating resilience, guide our every action,” he said.

Uirab also introduced the SSC fraud hotline, a strategy to maintain zero tolerance of fraudulent and corrupt activities.

“The hotline, with the number 0800 66 66 66, serves as a direct channel for reporting any misconduct.

By promoting accountability and vigilance, we aim to safeguard the funds entrusted to us and maintain the highest standards of governance,” Uirab said.

“We believe that by providing a platform to report any suspicious activities, we not only protect the integrity of our organisation, but also uphold the trust our members place in us,” the chairperson said.
