I HAVE been following the squabbles between the Chief Regional (CRO) of Karas Regional Council and the Governor of the Karas Region since it started in the printed media since late last year.
I have reliably learnt that the investigation team of Anti-Corruption Commission visited the friendly southern town of Keetmanshoop from June 4 to 8 – in those days proudly referred to as the capital of the south by late Hampie Plichta, who was having a vision/dream for this town. Something which I think we as original inhabitants of Keetmanshoop can emulate, given the lack of development and employment creation in this town.Sorry, let me come back to the CRO vs Governor of Karas Region issue.Leaders at whatever level must know that we want to hear and see the truth, because the Bible says: you will know the Truth and the Truth will set you free. When once approached for comment by visual media, I said and still says that this unfortunate squabbles between two senior leaders affects the whole region, and Keetmanshoop in particular.Keetmanshoop being the main centre of the Karas Region is supposed to be the torch of hope for the regions development drive.Keetmanshoop being a small town, rumours go around that during the next Regional Council Meeting a motion will be tabled to suspend the CRO.The following questions came to my mind: * what purpose will such suspension serve? * is it to prevent the CRO from interfering with the investigation(s) – if that is the case, it will not serve the desired purpose, as this issue dragged on for such a long time, before being addressed with the seriousness it deserves, as it looks now? * what purpose did the mediation of Minister John Pandeni serve, when he visited Keetmanshoop with the regional congress of the Swapo Party? * what role does politics play in this so-called notorious case, more time and mechanisms should be applied to cases where millions of taxpayer’s money was squandered and not accounted for? The CRO position is the only most senior position filled by the son of the very soil of Karas Region, and looking at the trend of the matter, one wonders, who or what is the driving force behind the issue.I must objectively say that the CRO was instrumental and forceful in getting projects in the region off the ground, like the construction of the constituency offices, Southern RED, regional investment initiatives, etc, but to mention a few, what about administrative matters, like transport who used to be abused previously. The Namibian Constitution provides that one is innocent until proven guilty by a competent court of law. However, the media have already judged and found the CRO guilty, according to reports thus far in The Namibian and Insight Namibia. Thus, to save the image of the region further harm, please solve this issue once and for all in a mature and commendable way. Some organs work around the clock to get this only son of the soil of Karas out of his position, but not all of us in the region is not lazy and drunkards, we see what is going on.Those of us who want to make meaningful contributions are excluded, but we are following the issue with keen interest.Carl Christians KeetmanshoopSomething which I think we as original inhabitants of Keetmanshoop can emulate, given the lack of development and employment creation in this town.Sorry, let me come back to the CRO vs Governor of Karas Region issue.Leaders at whatever level must know that we want to hear and see the truth, because the Bible says: you will know the Truth and the Truth will set you free.
