Some southern parts of the country and areas receiving electricity through Nored will experience power supply interruptions between 17h00 and 21h00 on Monday.

This comes as NamPower puts into effect its debt collection plan.

Affected local authorities include Rehoboth, Mariental, Karasburg and Aranos.

The power outage of four hours per day will also impact Maltahöhe, Gibeon, Bethanie, Tses, Koës, Leonardville, Berseba, Kalkrand, Aroab and the Stampriet Village Council office.

On Friday, NamPower sent out a notice to inform the affected clients to settle their debt before 5 June.

These clients, according to the power utility, are in breach of settlement terms in power supply agreements or have defaulted on extended settlement arrangements in place.

“Stage one starts on a Monday, followed by stage two the following week if no full payment is received during that week,” the notice reads. “Moving to the next stage will only be halted once full payment is received.”

If the affected local authorities’ debts with NamPower are not settled, the planned power cuts will escalate to both Moday and Tuesday the following week and will increase by an additional day each week after that.

NamPower has advised the public to consider all power lines and electrical points as live during electricity supply inrerruptions, as no prior notification will be given when the power supply is restored.

Cenored Okahandja Electricity (Pty) Ltd, the //Karas Regional Council, Lüderitz Town Council, Gochas Village Council, Witvlei Village Council, Municipality of Gobabis and the Groot Aub and Brakwater areas under the City of Windhoek were removed from the list of debtors after either settling their accounts or making firm commitments to bring their accounts up to date.

Oshakati will not be affected by the power cuts as the town is supplied with electricity by Oshakati Premier Electric.
