The countdown to the WBA Pan Africa super featherweight title fight has begun with Flame ‘Special One’ Nangolo taking on Zimbabwe’s Peter Pambeni next weekend.

Nangolo, who is still unbeaten after 11 pro fights, has been training hard for the fight and was in confident mood yesterday.

“I’m in top shape and come 14 September ain’t nobody walking away with the WBA Pan Africa title. See you on Saturday night,” he said.

Nangolo, who is still only 22 years old, will have age on his side, as Pambeni is 15 years older, and although the Zimbabwean is more experienced, he has a patchy record of 18 wins, three draws and eight defeats.

Pambeni, however, has a proven record in Namibia having beating Siegfried Kaperu and Junias Amunyela 17 years ago, although he lost to Jeremiah Nakathila five years ago.

The fight promoter Imms Moses said Pambeni will provide a tough challenge.

“Peter Pambeni is a formidable contender with an impressive record on Namibian soil. He has made it clear that he’s coming to fight, but Flame Nangolo is a new force in the boxing world. Known for his unique skills and determination, Nangolo is ready to show why he’s called the ‘Special One’,” he said.

Shinima suffered his first pro defeat against Denis Nurja of Albania in March due to a fourth round injury and will be eager to get back to winning ways after having won his previous 16 fights. He should start asthe big favourite gainst Kakololo, who has lost all three his pro fights to date.

There will also be several other exciting fights on the undercard, with Hafeni Ngesheya taking on Josef Abel for the Namibia national super featherweight title over ten rounds; Ruan Rispel taking on Silvanus Denzel in a lightweight fight over four rounds; Robert Ndalelwa taking on Nicanor Alweendo in a welterweight fight over four rounds; and Johannes Andreas taking on Simon Angula in a welterweight fight over four rounds.

According to Moses the event marks a significant milestone for African boxing, as Sean Gibbon of Knucklehead Boxing and CEO of MP Promotions – the promotion company of the legendary Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao – has partnered with AC Promotions.

“This collaboration is set to open doors for young African boxing talent, providing them with opportunities to shine on a global stage, including in the United States,” Moses said.
