Close to 130 sport administrators will meet in Windhoek on Saturday to map the way forward for local sport.
Minister of sport, youth and national service Agnes Tjongarero is expected to be the keynote speaker.
Talking to Desert Radio this week, Namibia Sports Commission (NSC) chief administrator Freddy Mwiya said Tjongarero is set to share the direction the ministry wants to take in the development of Namibian sport.
“I have invited key role-players to give presentations on various topics. We will have representatives from the Namibia National Olympic Committee, the Namibia Paralympic Committee, and the NSC,” Mwiya said.
“We are also going to have a presentation by the medical committee on the medical requirements guide document, where participants would have a platform to ask questions,” he said.
The thorny issue of the government providing sport federations with grants will not be on the agenda, Mwiya said.
“I always laugh when people talk about grants to the various federations and umbrella bodies. We should start talking about support systems at national level, instead of grants,” he said.
