The Swapo Party Youth League (SPYL) Unam branch secretary Fenny Tutjavi has urged young people not to undermine democracy and to show up in numbers for the upcoming elections.

Tutjavi said this on Monday at the Swapo headquarters in Windhoek during SPYL’s first episode of youthful discussion, the ‘Swapo Talks’.

“I think as young people our generational call is political participation, do not allow people to make decisions on your behalf. Go out there and make meaningful contributions, and we look again at the demographic. Young people must come out in large numbers,” she said

“We have seen that young people have actually registered, and let’s vote wisely, do not be misled by the imperialists,” she said.

Speaking at the same event, Swapo parliamentarian and works and transport deputy minister Veikko Nekundi urged young people to make sure that after they are registered, they vote come November.

“On election day, make sure you use that card. It is not something to be carried in the pocket that is not utilised for the same purpose,” he said.

He said people should vote for those who are accountable to the people of Namibia.
