St Paul’s win OTB Girls League

St Paul’s College won the OTB Girls Soccer League after beating HTS 2-1 in an entertaining final at the Ramblers field on Friday.

St Paul’s took an early lead when their captain Jasmin Baas sent in a long freekick that went high over HTS’s keeper Loide Hanyana into the net.

HTS fought back strongly with Esther Negumbo especially dangerous in attack, but St Paul’s defended well, with Baas prominent, while their goalie Vetjiwa Tjivau was in great form and pulled off some great saves.

Tjivau had to receive treatment after colliding with the post after one memorable save but bravely continued playing.

The second half started in dramatic fashion when Adelisha Beukes broke through St Paul’s defence to equalise for HTS.

St Paul’s however immediately restored their lead when Anuschka Bergmann scored from the resulting kickoff. She ran onto a throughball and although her shot was parried by Hanyana, it deflected into the net.

HTS had a great chance to equalise when they won a penalty midway through the second half but they couldn’t beat the inspirational Tjivau.

She pulled off two brilliant saves, first from Kambato Vevanguti’s spot kick and then from the rebound by Adelisha Beukes.

St Paul’s held on for the victory to become the winners of the OTB Girls League.

The Boys u19 title was won by Cosmos who beat Concordia 3-1 in the final, while St Josephs beat Cosmos 3-1 in the u17 final. HTS won the u15 title after beating St Georges 2-1 in the final.

Numerous schools from Windhoek participated in the OTB schools league, including St Paul’s, HTS, Cosmos, Delta, St Georges, Concordia, St Josephs and Dobra.
