The state has withdrawn a murder charge, as well as a robbery and possession of stolen property charge against Zambian national Likando Kangombe after police preliminary investigations now point in a different direction.
Kangombe (27), during his second court appearance before magistrate Davy Kambinda in the Katima Mulilo Magistrate’s Court on Monday was, however, informed to return to court as a state witness at a date yet to be set.
Prosecutor Brona Mukoya represented the state.
The Zambian national was arrested on 15 October this year in connection with the alleged murder of Sibuku Sinyepe (42) who was shot and killed near his house in the Greenwell Matongo residential area in March.
At the time, the state had alleged Kangombe and accused number two, Charles Mushabati, robbed Sinyepe of his cellphone and other valuables on that day.
However, after spending two months and a week behind bars in the Katima Mulilo police holding cells, new evidence indicates that Kangombe was a mere purchaser of the stolen cellphone, according to police investigations.
The case has been postponed to 05 March 2025 for plea and trial, and to allow Mushabati to get legal representation.
