THE Deputy Minister of Justice Tommy Nambahu has revealed that there are currently 50 pending forfeiture applications by the State under the Prevention of Organised Crime Act (POCA) which came into force in 2009.
The Anti-Corruption Commission uses POCA as one of the main legal weapons in its arsenal against corruption.Speaking at the sixth session of the Conference of State Parties to the United Nations Convention against Transnational Organised Crime in Vienna, Austria, Nambahu said transnational organised crime hindered socio-economic development and undermined the rule of law. He called for concerted efforts globally in the fight against transnational organised crime.’The undeniable truth is that transnational organised crime is a global problem and the solution to a global problem lies in the concerted efforts globally,’ said Nambahu. ‘In this regard we wish to inform the conference that Namibia recently deposited its instrument of ratification of the International Convention on the Suppressing of Financing of Terrorism.’
