Stock theft, hit-and-run, drug bust in Oshana

This week in Oshana has seen a mix of criminal activity, with reports of livestock theft, a hit-and-run accident and a drug bust, a crime report by Oshana police spokesperson chief inspector Thomas Aiyambo says.

According to Aiyambo, a resident of Uukwedhidhi village in the Okatana constituency reported the theft of two goats between Thursday evening and Friday morning.

“The suspects allegedly entered the complainant’s kraal, stole the goats and slaughtered them nearby,” Aiyambo says.

He says two Namibian males have been arrested in connection with the crime and that police investigations are ongoing.

Aiyambo says the value of the stolen goats is estimated at N$2 000.

In a different incident, Aiyambo says a hit-and-run accident occurred early Saturday morning on the main road between Ondangwa and Oshakati, near Okapya village.

He says a pedestrian was struck by a Toyota Hilux pickup that failed to stop after the collision.

The male victim (37) sustained minor injuries, Aiyambo says.

The driver, a 33-year-old male from Eloolo Okaku, reportedly contacted the police by phone after leaving the scene.

He was later arrested and is currently detained at Ondangwa, Aiyambo says.

“Police were unable to conduct an alcohol test due to the delay in reporting the incident,” he says.

In a separate operation, Oshakati police raided a house at Okandjengedi location on Saturday afternoon.

“The raid resulted in the confiscation of 60 units of crack cocaine with an estimated value of N$6 000, along with N$7 092 in cash,” Aiyambo says.

Aiyambo says a Namibian female suspect (38) was arrested and will appear in court on Monday.
