The National Information and Communication Technology Summit kicked off on Monday at the Mercure Hotel in Windhoek.

Minister of information and communication technology Emma Theofelus says digital transformation and artificial intelligence is shaping society and is coming to the forefront of communication.

She says that as beneficial as it is, it does pose its challenges.

“The summit is not just an event but a significant milestone in our efforts to shape Namibia’s future. . .Technology is driving change at an unprecedented speed,” Theofelus says.

She highlights the importance of youth involvement in the information and communication technology sector.

The summit is hosted under the theme ‘Buildng resilience to ‘adapt or die’ in the era of digital transformation and artificial intelligence’.

Speaking at the same event, ministry executive director Audrin Mathe said it is important for Namibia to adapt to the times to not get left behind.

“This summit brings together stakeholders, sponsors, and young people to aid in the drive of digital transformation,” Mathe said.

Mathe also announced that the ministry is working on a database that will allow people to carry one document that can be used as identification for everything.

The summit will run from 9 to 11 September, with the final day observed as a youth day.
