Sunny Boy Drops Mic on Shipanga

Unwrap.onlineNamibia’s Hikwa pioneer Sunny Boy is the first artist to publicly confront Desmond Shipanga for insulting DJ Ambizzy.

Shipanga, also known as Birdies, allegedly said on Instagram the DJ was not normal for being born with albinism.

During a recent show organised by Shipanga, Sunny Boy stopped performing halfway through the show because Birdies had allegedly refused to use the platform to apologise to DJ Ambizzy.

“I asked him personally, ‘you know it is not nice what you have said and to single people out like that for who they are. It was kind of rude, don’t you think you should apologise publicly. It won’t hurt anyone’. He did that, but he was being sarcastic and corny. Birdies is my friend, but people who are born with albinism go through a lot in life and I just wanted him to give a meaningful apology, but he was still cocky so I decided it would not be right for me to continue with the show,” Sunny Boy said.

Sunny Boy added that it is important for people to admit their mistakes and apologise when they must.

He then told supporters he was not going to continue the show and also condemned Birdies for his failure to pay DJ Ambizzy.

“It is not right to invite people to perform for you and then you take your time to pay them. That is just wrong.”

When contacted for comment, Shipanga said he did not want to speak to reporters.

“Hallo ek wil nie met julle praat nie,” Shipanga said in Afrikaans, which loosely translates to “Hello, I don’t want to talk to you people”.

Sunny Boy and DJ Ambizzy are due to perform at Kings Lounge in Windhoek today.
