The bill for the ‘Tribute to Dr Sam Shafiishuna Nujoma Boxing Bonanza’ on 12 April is complete, the organisers say.
The MTC Nestor Sunshine Boxing Academy will present the showcase at the Windhoek Showgrounds where two World Boxing Organisation (WBO) Africa titles and a national strap will be on the line.
Main attraction and WBO Africa super bantamweight champion Fillipus ‘Energy’ Nghitumbwa (14-2) will look to fend off challenger Hassan Milanzi of Zimbabwe, while WBO Africa featherweight titleholder Mateus ‘The Beast’ Heita (14-0) faces South Africa’s Abdul-Aziz Kunert (12-3-1).
The bill also has super middleweight banger Paulinus ‘Jon-Jon’ Ndjolonimus fighting Snamiso Ntuli from South Africa in a non-international bout.
The trio of Namibians are all bidding to improve their world ratings with victories on home turf.
Similarly, Fredrick Nghutenanye and David Shinuna will vie for the national featherweight title in a bid to get onto the world ratings.
Promoter Nestor Tobias says they intend to have a fitting farewell to the MTC Sunshine Academy’s late patron.
“This event is a celebration of a life well-lived, a life of sacrifice dedicated to the Namibian people,” Tobias says.
“We invite everyone to join us in honouring a true national hero.
“Nujoma’s resilience and unwavering dedication to our nation contributed significantly to Namibia’s independence, an achievement that will not go unnoticed. In honouring a man of such stature and calibre, we dedicate this fight to him,” he says of the event’s significance.
“As our founding president and a father of the Namibian nation, Nujoma played a pivotal role in the success of the academy. His advice and motivation inspired our boxers in many ways,” Tobias continues.
“Under his tenure as patron, we produced three world champions. Namely Paulus ‘The Hitman’ Moses, Paulus ‘The Rock’ Ambunda and Julius ‘The Blue Machine’ Indongo, alongside many regional and national champions.
“His encouragement and motivation during our visits to State House fuelled our commitment to excel in our duties. He was truly a gift to the nation, and Namibia will deeply miss his bright smile, which served as a guiding light and beacon of hope.”
The bill also includes the following bouts:
Paulus Filipus vs Salaties Moses (featherweight); Andreas Shikongo vs Gabriel Shimweefeleni (super welterweight); Joy Nangolo vs Phillipus Matheus (super flyweight); Sem Mathew vs Andreas Endjala (featherweight); Tangeni Salomon vs Reinhold Matheus (lightweight); Max Iipinge vs Martin Simasku (heavyweight); Martin Mukungu vs Silas Shangwadjua (junior lightweight), Nestor Thomas vs Teofilus Nashilongo (bantamweight); Alfeus Shaanika vs Erastus Filemon (junior lightweight); Erastus Shapaka vs Festus Simon (super flyweight); Lineekela Nghifindaka vs Immanuel Andeleki (junior lightweight).
