Swanu, NMDC condemn Gaza incursion

THE South West Africa National Union (Swanu) and the Namibia Democratic Movement for Change (NMDC) have both condemned the Israeli actions against the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip.

‘We call upon the Israeli government to immediately cease its hostilities against the Palestinian people,’ Swanu President Usutuaije Maamberua said in a media release.
Maamberua called on Israel to vacate the Palestinian territories immediately and unconditionally in order for peace to be restored.
Failing this, Maamberua called on the Government of Namibia to sever trade and diplomatic links with Israel.
‘Our own experience during the racist apartheid occupation of Namibia is fresh in our memories, and therefore, we cannot allow any other nation to annihilate any other without condemnation and action from the international community,’ said Maamberua.
NMDC Secretary general Joseph Kauandenge said the show of muscle or demonstration of superior firepower by Israel clearly depicted a state that lacks compassion and humility.
‘Now is the time for the world to send a clear message to the Israeli government that they have no monopoly over death or life. They should be told in no uncertain terms that they should cease their ill-advised bombardments immediately,’ Kauandenge said.
He said failure to call Israel to order would mean that Namibia and the rest of the world would equally share the blame for the lost lives. – Nampa and Own Reporter
