Swapo and Nandi-Ndaitwah lead Kavango East election results; Itula and IPC in second place

Swapo presidential candidate Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah and her party swept to a large majority of votes in the Kavango East region’s presidential and National Assembly elections on 27 November.

This is according to preliminary results reported at polling stations and collation centres in the region’s constituencies.

In the Rundu Urban constituency, Nandi-Ndaitwah received 16 696 votes in the presidential election, followed by Independent Patriots for Change (IPC) candidate Panduleni Itula in a distant second place with 5 153 votes, McHenry Venaani of the Popular Democratic Movement (PDM) with 1 242 votes, Affirmative Repositioning (AR) leader Job Amupanda with 581 votes and Ambrosius Kumbwa of the All People’s Party (APP) with 550 votes.

In the National Assembly election in the Rundu Urban constituency, Swapo received 15 143 votes, IPC 3 951 votes, AR 1 583 votes, PDM 1 447 votes and APP 824 votes, with other parties receiving lower numbers of votes.

In the Rundu Rural constituency, Nandi-Ndaitwah was chosen by 2 910 voters and Itula received 612 votes, Venaani 273 votes, Kumbwa 177 votes and Amupanda 66 votes.

In the National Assembly election in the Rundu Rural constituency, Swapo received 2 770 votes, IPC 487 votes, PDM 263 votes, APP 262 votes and AR 129 votes.

A similar pattern was recorded in the Mukwe constituency, where Nandi-Ndaitwah received 5 188 votes in the presidential election, followed by Itula with 1 873 votes, Venaani with 1 673 votes, Kumbwa with 791 votes and Amupanda with 139 votes.

In the National Assembly election in the Mukwe constituency, Swapo received 4 772 votes, PDM 1 607 votes, IPC 1 445 votes, APP 1 239 votes and AR 318 votes.

In the Ndonga Linena constituency, Nandi-Ndaitwah scored 2 695 votes in the presidential election, Itula 662 votes, Venaani 350 votes, Kumbwa 276 votes and Amupanda 23 votes.

In the same constituency, the National Assembly elections results show Swapo secured 2 586 votes, IPC 594 votes, PDM 360 votes, APP 336 votes and AR 61 votes.

In the Ndiyona constituency, Nandi-Ndaitwah received 2 367 votes, Itula 452 votes, Kumbwa 305 votes, Venaani 246 votes and Republican Party candidate Henk Mudge 153 votes.

National Assembly election results in the Ndiyona constituency have Swapo on top with 2 236 votes, IPC with 382 votes, APP with 375 votes, PDM with 259 votes and the Republican Party with 160 votes.

While campaigning in Kavango East in July this year, Nandi-Ndaitwah told young voters she is not corrupt. “I am allergic to corruption, I say no to corruption,” she said.

She also urged young people to shun corruption, adding that the youth should be prioritised in the country’s economic opportunities.

She said the nation yearns for a transformative shift towards effective delivery of services and increased welfare for Namibians.
