Swapo councillor speaks out against ‘gender confusion’

Swapo’s coordinator for the //Kharas region, Matthew Mumbala, says mothers need to ensure their children remain the “right gender”, as God only made two genders.

Mumbala says LGBTQI+ issues will destroy the country’s moral fabric.

He said this at the Swapo Party Womens’ Council (SPWC) leadership orientation workshop at Keetmanshoop on Saturday.

The aim of the workshop was for the Hardap and //Kharas regions to deliberate on the implementation of the SPWC’s annual plan for April 2023 to March 2024.

“You are our mothers and must not allow our children to become what God did not create them to be. If a child is a girl, they should remain a girl. If a child is a boy, they should remain a boy. These things will destroy our cultures and traditions, and once we lose our cultures, our identities will also be lost,” Mumbala said.

He agreed with prime minister Saara Kuugongelwa-Amadhila, who recently said the Constitution defines marriage as being between a man and a woman.

Kuugongelwa-Amadhila said this in parliament on 6 June when announcing that the government would table a bill this week to modify the relevant common law principle so that same-sex marriage is not recognised in Namibia
