Swapo electoral college slated for September

Swapo is set to elect its 96 prospective members of the National Assembly for 2025 to 2029 in September.

The party’s electoral college will take place from 6 to 8 September, according to a circular from the office of Swapo secretary general, Sophia Shaningwa.

According to the circular, delegates to the electoral college are all party members of the central committee, all party elected members of the National Assembly and elected from each region through regional conferences.

Swapo Party Youth League, the elder’s council, the National Union of Namibian Workers and the Former Plan Combatants Association will have six candidates each.

The Swapo Party Women’s Council will have ten candidates.

Qualifications for nomination as candidates include a Namibian identification document, voter’s card, five years uninterrupted party membership, five years good standing in payment of annual membership subscription fees, five years good standing in payment of 1% percent contribution and a police conduct certificate not older than six months.
