Swapo has invited the media to a press conference that is to be addressed by presidential candidate Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah – referred to as “president-elect” in the party’s invitation.
The announcement of the media conference in Windhoek on Wednesday was made on the party’s social media platforms on Tuesday, with Nandi-Ndaitwah referred to as “president-elect”.
Nandi-Ndaitwah and her party are in the lead in the presidential and National Assembly election results so far reported at polling stations and by the Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN), with Independent Patriots for Change (IPC) leader Panduleni Itula and the IPC in second place.
By Tuesday afternoon, the ECN announced that 362 940 votes (54.8%) had been counted for Nandi-Ndaitwah in the presidential election, 185 975 votes (28%) for Itula and 42 094 votes (6.3%) for Landless People’s Movement (LPM) leader Bernadus Swartbooi.
In the National Assembly election, Swapo was in the lead by Tuesday afternoon, with 396 203 votes (56.4%), followed by the IPC with 135 145 votes (19.2%), Affirmative Repositioning with 44 043 votes (6.2%) and the LPM with 40 976 votes (5.8%).
