Oshiwambo traditional singer Kauna-pawa Christopher, who goes by the name ‘Sweet Namibia’, is making waves with her latest music video release.

The video, a captivating accompaniment to her album titled ‘Pelenge naame omwaali”, has received overwhelmingly positive responses from her fans and fellow Namibians, who enjoy good traditional music, she says.

Sweet Namibia entered the music scene in 2018 and was nominated for the 2022 Zikomo Awards in Zambia in the best traditional music category.

Her distinct voice and dedication to preserving and promoting her traditional music, specifically the renowned “Shambo” genre, has earned her the hearts of music enthusiasts

She says the passion she has for her heritage shines brightly in every song she sings and thus her latest video offering is testament to her commitment to elevating the Namibian culture through music on a global stage.

She says her music video features the dynamic collaboration with artist Drawer Locosound, showcasing the seamless fusion of traditional elements with modern sound.

“’Pelenge’, the track featured in the video not only celebrates Namibian musical traditions but also carries a contemporary energy that resonates with audiences of all backgrounds,” she says.

“The success of the music video can be attributed to the collective effort of several individuals who brought my creative vision to life. One particular driving force behind the videos online success is Maria Nepembe, who encouraged me to share my music on YouTube, gaining me 10 000 views in under 30 hours. This is a true testament to the captivating allure of Sweet Namibia’s performance and the resonant power of Namibian traditional music,” adds Christopher.
