‘Sweet Namibia’ stays proudly traditional

Kauna-pawa Christopher

OSHIWAMBO traditional singer Kauna-Pawa Christopher, who calls herself ‘Sweet Namibia’, has just released a new music video.

The video accompanies her album, titled ‘Pelenge Naame Omwaali’, which she says her fans have met with overwhelming positive response.

Sweet Namibia entered the music scene in 2018, and was nominated for the 2022 Zikomo awards in Zambia in the category for best traditional music.

Her distinct voice and dedication to preserving and promoting traditional music, specifically the shambo genre, has earned her a special placein the hearts of traditional music enthusiasts.

Sweet Namibia says her passion for her heritage shines brightly in every song.

Her latest video offering is testament to her commitment to elevating Namibian culture through music onto the global stage.

She says the video features collaboration with artist Drawer Locosound, showcasing the seamless fusion of traditional elements with modern sound.

“’Pelenge’, the track featured in the video, not only celebrates Namibian musical traditions, but also carries a contemporary energy that resonates with audiences of all backgrounds,” she says.

“The success of the music video can be attributed to the collective efforts of several individuals who have brought my creative vision to life.

“One particular driving force behind the video’s online success is Maria Nepembe, who encouraged me to share my music on YouTube, garnering 10 000 views in under 30 hours.

“This is true testament to the captivating allure of Sweet Namibia’s performance and the resonant power of Namibian traditional music,” Sweet Namibia says.
