Namibian swimmers excelled to win the Cana Zone 4 Championships which came to an end in Luanda, Angola over the weekend.
Namibia won the event with a total of 2 757 points, finishing more than 400 points ahead of second placed Angola (2 355), while Mozambique came third on 2 068 points.
They were followed by South Africa (1 598), Botswana (1 230) and Zambia (1 109).
The other competing nations were Swaziland (621), Mauritius (463), Uganda (446), Malawi (378), Seychelles (181), Tanzania (113) and Lesotho (27).
Namibia also finished well ahead on the medal count.
Namibia were also the overall winners in the male as well as female categories. They won the male category with 1 330 points followed by Angola (1 199) and Mozambique (1 114), while they won the women’s category with 1 427 points, followed by Angola (1 156) and Mozambique (954).
Namibia won a total of 117 medals conisting of 45 gold,36 silver and 36 bronze medals, to finish well ahead of Angola who won 74 medals (30 gold, 24 silver, 20 bronze) and South Africa on 48 (14 gold,18 silver, 16 bronze).
Namibia also dominated the individual awards, with Oliver Durand winning the Victor Ludorum in the boys 15-16 year category, while Lorenzo Esterhuizen won the Victor Ludorum award in the boys 13-14 year category, and Roselinde Matyayi the Victrix Ludorum in the girls 12 and under category.
