Three men were arrested after allegedly gang raping and killing a girl (16) at a farm near Oshivelo in the Oshikoto region on Tuesday.
Oshikoto police deputy commissioner Titus Ekandjo on Thursday said the schoolgirl’s body was found buried in a shallow grave.
“During investigations, the suspects confessed to allegedly gang raping the victim, before killing her, and thereafter, burying her body in a shallow grave in an attempt to cover the matter up,” Ekandjo said.
Prior to the incident, the victim was allegedly seen at around 14h00 on Tuesday with the three men, aged 22, 26 and 28, near a supermarket at Oshivelo.
“On Wednesday, the family members of the deceased came to the Oshivelo police station to report the victim as a missing person, as she never returned home,” Ekandjo said.
The police followed the matter up, traced the suspects and eventually, through investigations, discovered the body of the schoolgirl.
Before the arrest of the three suspects, following the incident, two of the suspects had allegedly fled to a farm 40km from Oshivelo.
The body of the deceased was transported to the Omuthiya police mortuary for a post-mortem to determine the cause of death.
The next of kin are informed and investigations continue.
