Despite asking questions, for over a month, regarding the removal of public phone booths around Windhoek, Telecom Namibia has remained mum on the operation.

Despite asking questions, for over a month, regarding the removal of public phone booths around Windhoek, Telecom Namibia has remained mum on the operation.

Numerous enquiries were sent to the Corporate Communications department, specifically Oiva Angula, the Senior Manager: Corporate Communications and Public Relations, but no response was received.

This, after The Namibian Consumer noticed that the booths were being removed all over the city while some service stations were still selling Telecards. The pay phones are dumped in the Telecom Namibia yard in Windhoek’s Southern Industrial Area.

Speaking briefly to The Namibian Consumer telephonically, Angula initially refused to entertain any query on the booths but later admitted that the company did decide to get rid of the booths because “very few people use them”. He, however, had no response when asked why some service providers were still selling telecards by the time the booths started to be removed. This journalist gave him the opportunity to respond to the queries in detail but he ignored all correspondence.

The Telecommunications company made the information available to radio stations, such as Base FM, but released no statement to this newspaper.
