Former minister of mines and energy Tom Alweendo has expressed gratitude to Namibians for their support throughout his tenure.
In a statement shared on social media, Alweendo reflected on his years of public service, which began in 2010 when he joined the government after serving as the governor of the Bank of Namibia.
“As I step down as minister of mines and energy of Namibia, I would like to extend my heartfelt gratitude to all of you who have followed and supported my journey,” he said.
Alweendo’s departure comes amid growing interest in Namibia’s mining and energy sectors, particularly in oil exploration and renewable energy initiatives.
President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah has appointed Natangwe Ithete as the minister of industrialisation, mines and energy, as well as deputy prime minister.
