The Dogg’s Star Continues to Rise

HE has taken home awards from international ceremonies like the Channel O Music Awards and the Koras, popularly known as the African Grammys, and recently he was nominated in the Best Male Southern Africa category of the Africa Muzic Magazine Awards 2014.

Now The Dogg occupies one of the top spots in online African music. Coming a long way from his ‘Onaena Number 9’ days, The Dogg has consistently honed his craft and now produces award winning music on a continental level.

His music continues to go from strength to strength, most notably regarding quality and international appeal, explaining why the rest of Africa is steadily falling in love with him too.

Proving that he’s the top dog, The Dogg’s hit song ‘Nuka’ recently topped the list of most downloaded songs in Africa on iTunes. He went from the 20th most downloaded song to number one spot in less than 24 hours. At the time of going to print, ‘Nuka’ was the second most downloaded song after the late Brenda Fassie’s ‘Wedding Day’.

The only other Namibian artist who made the prestigious list is D-Naff who occupies the number 15 spot on the top 200.

‘Nuka’, which features on the ‘Live or Die’ album has been receiving massive airplay ever since its release last year and has now become even more popular with the release of the much anticipated music video. The video has been the talk of the town on social networks as well as in the media with some radio DJs describing the video as one of the best ever produced in Namibia.

Speaking from South Africa where he was promoting the ‘Nuka’ video on stations like MTV Base, The Dogg expressed excitement and humility at the achievement, saying that it is another step closer to getting the Namibian sound out there even more.

“I did not expect the song to get this much attention, but I understand that the people like it because it is a different kind of house sound that can appeal to even the European ear,” The Dogg said.

He reiterated that he’s long been determined to take his music beyond Namibian borders so the rest of the world can experience what Namibia has to offer when it comes to music and entertainment. Although only the song is available on iTunes at the moment,

The Dogg is looking at loading the video, which has so far received 5 046 views in five days on YouTube. Determined to make a statement with this track, The Dogg decided to work with only the best in the industry when it came to the production.

“The production was done by myself, Elvo and Morgan. For the music video I worked with Desert Film Production,” he said.

He is considered one of Namibia’s most successful artists and says his achievements all come as a result of hard work and staying loyal to the vision he had when he first started out in the industry.
