There are two types of men: those who keep their promises by doing what they say they will do and achieve their goals, and those who do not do what they say they will do.
There is no middle ground here, it’s either that or nothing.
As we close the chapter on 2024, let’s take a moment to reflect. To those who stayed true to their word, congratulations on your success.
And for the rest of us who didn’t quite do anything, here is the good news: 2025 is a fresh start, a year of action and execution. Let’s commit to turning our plans into reality and making it a year to remember.
One of the most curious things about plans is the importance of keeping them to yourself. Your dreams, ambitions and strategies are deeply personal and require focus. Sharing them prematurely with your wife, girlfriend, mom or colleagues can unintentionally dilute their impact.
This is not about secrecy, but about protecting your vision until it is tangible and ready to be shared.
Plans are like seeds. You plant them in the quiet soil of your mind and nurture them privately until they are strong enough to grow in the open. Yes, sometimes we all get carried away in our excitement and share more than we intended. That’s completely normal. However, if you find yourself spilling the details, learn to pull back and say less.
Mastering the art of silence about your goals can empower you to achieve them with less external noise or unsolicited opinions clouding your path.
As the year ends, take a moment to reflect. What are you truly thankful for? Consider what this year has brought you, perhaps more than you expected?
Think about the challenges you faced and overcame. Often, the little voice in our head is what holds us back.
Recognising and quieting that voice is an act of self-love and growth. Read the book ‘The Mountain is You’ – thank me later.
In addition, writing your reflections down or creating diagrams can offer surprising clarity.
When you do, you might discover that you have done better than you initially thought. For instance, maybe you set a goal to save N$50 000 this year but didn’t manage to save anything. Instead, you paid off N$40 000 in debt, a tremendous achievement. Paying off debt and saving are both crucial financial milestones, and recognising their importance helps you celebrate your progress rather than dwell on perceived shortfalls.
Take notice of what you have done, and you may realise you have overachieved in unexpected ways. Celebrate the small wins; they add up to big successes over time.
Above all, remember to be thankful for the journey, growth and resilience that brought you this far. And guess what, if you make it out of 2024 that’s a success story on its own.
As a novice writer and a dedicated advocate for men’s issues, I want to take a moment to thank you – my readers, followers and supporters. You are the reason I write. As the festive season approaches, I encourage you to embrace it with responsibility, gratitude and joy.
Celebrate with loved ones, reflect on the year behind you and set your sights on the possibilities ahead. May your festive season be blessed, meaningful and filled with moments that remind you of the beauty of life’s journey.
