Here we have an exciting line-up of events that will keep you entertained and on the edge of your seat, from drag shows to art exhibition launches and live concerts, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.
Night Under The Stars
The Goethe-Institut prides itself on providing a space and platform for Namibian live performers to perform and flourish through their regularly held live show ‘Night Under The Stars’.
It has seen a multitude of acts and talents ascend the stage and this month’s guest is none other than the illustrious Shishani. The Europe-based artist is known for her diverse sound that blends her Belgian and Namibian roots, as well as her unforgettable voice. Entrance will set you back N$50 for the 19h00 show today (Friday).
‘Onlooker’
Still today (Friday), visual artist Actofel Ilovu will be exhibiting ‘Onlooker’ at the StArt Art Gallery in Windhoek. He created this collection of linoleum block prints using a variety of materials and was influenced by his personal history and observations of contemporary Namibian life. This event will be a great opportunity to delve into the mind and motives of the artist and connect with like-minded individuals interested in visual art. Admission is free, and the exhibition will be on display until 20 May.
/Ae //Gams Arts and Cultural Festival
The City of Windhoek is all about celebrating the cultural diversity and richness of its inhabitants, and through its upcoming festival, the city will give many a platform to share their talent and meet other creatives, artists, and those who love to consume local content. The event will take place at the City of Windhoek’s upper parking lot today and tomorrow (Friday and Saturday). It will feature performances by artists such as Big Ben, Sunny Boy, the College of the Arts Student Band, Jaliza and many more, and there will also be theatre performances, comedy, poetry, cultural games, craft classes and traditional cuisine for sale. Entry is free.
International Jazz Day celebrations
Funk, blues and soul will be in the air as International Jazz Day is celebrated with two separate but equally exciting events. Catch the action today (Friday) from 18h00 at the Franco Namibian Cultural Centre with Dramafusion, and on Sunday commemorate the genre at Anna’s Kloovenburg in Klein Windhoek with a band that includes live piano, lead and bass guitars, drums and a saxophone, starting at 16h00.
Drag Night!
Ladies, gentlemen, and non-binary friends, Drag Night Namibia is back for another fierce, glittery and outrageous extravaganza in Windhoek on Saturday, 6 May. The theme for this edition is ‘Monochrome Met’, with guests encouraged to dress in black and white. The event will take place at The Loft at The Old Power Station and admission is N$120.
A Night with Adriano Visagie as Tina
For one night only, radio personality, actor and performer Adriano Visagie will take the stage as ‘Tina’ in this one-man showcase at Isabel’s Place at Hermes, Walvis Bay, on Saturday, 6 May. The dress code for this soirée is sequins and heels, or formal attire, and tickets will set you back about N$500.
Mother’s Day Picnic
On Sunday, 14 May, Radiowave hosts an idyllic picnic experience for Mother’s Day that promises a day of relaxation, delicious food, drinks, and entertainment. If you want to celebrate your own mom, have her take a seat on the picturesque lawns of Droombos on the eastern side of Windhoek, accompanied by a picnic basket and the melodious tunes of Vaughn Ahrens amid the shade of the trees. A picnic basket for two will be available for N$750, and the event will start at 10h00. This event will be child-friendly.
