POLICE at Keetmanshoop have warned residents to be on guard after a string of burglaries at the town over the past two weeks.
Karas Regional Commander Nicky Nampala says the Police believe the thieves are targeting office and business complexes to steal computers and other office equipment. “In the majority of cases the offenders have smashed windows at the back or side of the properties to gain entry to the buildings,” Nampala said.In one of the latest break-ins – at the Old Mutual office complex – the thieves only managed to steal a computer keyboard.Nampala said the burglars could not find a way through the burglar bars and apparently used a long stick to fish the keyboard out through the window. The Karas Governor’s office, the town’s public library and the office of the Ministry of Lands and Resettlement at Keetmanshoop have also been broken into this past fortnight. No arrests have been made yet.”In the majority of cases the offenders have smashed windows at the back or side of the properties to gain entry to the buildings,” Nampala said.In one of the latest break-ins – at the Old Mutual office complex – the thieves only managed to steal a computer keyboard.Nampala said the burglars could not find a way through the burglar bars and apparently used a long stick to fish the keyboard out through the window. The Karas Governor’s office, the town’s public library and the office of the Ministry of Lands and Resettlement at Keetmanshoop have also been broken into this past fortnight. No arrests have been made yet.
