THOUSANDS of people flocked to Omuthiya in the Oshikoto Region to commemorate Heroes’ Day on Sunday.
Almost the entire Cabinet of President Hifikepunye Pohamba, accompanied by Founding President Sam Nujoma, many other high-ranking officials, survivors of the Omugulugwombashe battle and former Robben Island prisoners attended the event.Pohamba said the day was set aside as a public holiday to enable the Namibian nation to pay tribute to the sons and daughters who in many ways had dedicated their lives to the struggle for freedom, independence and the process of nation building. He said the example set by those people must inspire the current and future generations to overcome obstacles in the quest of building a prosperous society where all Namibians can achieve their full potential and lead dignified lives free from poverty and deprivation.
