Three die in accident on A1 outside Okahandja

Three people died on Friday afternoon when a white Toyota double cab overturned and rolled twice on the new Okahandja-Windhoek A1 Road in the Otjozondjupa region.

Police head of community affairs in the region senior inspector, Maureen Mbeha, on Saturday said the deceased persons are two male adults and a baby boy.

Their next of kin are yet to be informed of their deaths.

“It is alleged that the vehicle with an Oshakati registration number plate had a tyre burst which caused the driver to lose control over it,” said Mbeha.

The vehicle overturned first and rolled twice before coming to a standstill, she said.

The vehicle had 10 occupants including the driver. Six people sustained serious injuries, and one was slightly injured, said the police officer.

The injured were all taken to the Okahandja State Hospital at about 17h20 on Friday.

Police investigations in the matter continue.
