Three national relay records were broken at the Bank Windhoek Long Course Gala 2 which was held at the Olympia Pool over the weekend.
In the girls’ 17-18 year-old category, the Aqua Swimming and Fitness Club team set a new 200m medley relay record of 2 minutes 20,70 seconds, to break the former mark of 2:24,73, which was set in 2020.
The Aqua team consisted of Jessica Humphrey, Ava August, Maya Stange and Candice Rey.
In the boys’ 9-10 year-old 200m medley relay, Dolphins Swimming Club set a new record of 2:37,38, which beat the former mark of 2:38,82, which was set 35 years ago in 1988.
The Dolphins team consisted of Aiden Diehl, Oelof Badenhorst, Patrick Durand and Jasper Coetzee.
In the mixed 11-12 year-old 400m freestyle relay, Dolphins Swimming Club set a new record of 4:48,79. The Dolphins team consisted of Ryan Steyn, Patrick Durand, Emma Brinkmann and Ainoa Naukosho.
Jessica Humphrey of Aqua produced the two best performances of the gala in terms of international Fina points.
She obtained 647 points for winning the girls 15-16 year 50m backstroke in 31,19 seconds, and 622 Fina points for winning the girls 15-16 year 100m backstroke in 1:07,29.
Robin Engelhard of Aqua produced the third best performance, obtaining 598 Fina points for his time of 24,81 seconds in the boys 15-16 freestyle event.
Oliver Durand of Dolphins had four performances amongst the top ten, while Roselinde Matyayi of Aqua, Molley Smalley of Dolphins and Arkell Wellmann of Dolphins all produced one performance amongst the top ten.
Four clubs were represented at the gala, with Dolphins represented by 78 swimmers, Aqua 36 swimmers, Marlins Aquatic Club 16 swimmers and Phoenix Swimming Academy, four swimmers. In total, there were 134 swimmers and 785 entries.
