Tigers rout Civics

Tigers rout Civics

GOALS in either half from Samuel Goagoseb and Kenny Malgas of rampant Tigers subjected a poor Civics side to a second successive 2-0 defeat at the Khomasdal Stadium on Friday evening.

Tigers survived early pressure and took the game to their more decorated opponents after a scrappy opening to the match.
The partnership of Rene Warner with the pacey Tangeni Shipahu in midfield and two enterprising wingers in Ettienne Beukes and Gregory Horaeb, was the masterstroke in an accomplished display, as the vibrant quintet combined to devastating effect leaving a depleted Civics engine room in their wake.
Having wrestled possession away from the opposition, Shipahu went on a mazy run resulting in the ball running loose for Samuel Goagoseb to squeeze it under the onrushing Civics goalkeeper in the 24th minute.
The goal sparked the game into a more settled affair as both teams played some good football with a series of attempts at goal.
Civics resorted to tough tackling and long range shots to try and gain a foothold in the match that resulted in Victor Helu and Pineas Jacob getting booked for careless play.
However, Tigers had their tails up and looked more likely to increase their advantage going into the break.
Civics left back Franklin April somewhat controversially cut his involvement in the game short when he brought down a counter-attacking Shipahu, the referee deeming it as obstruction to a potential goal scoring opportunity.
Two goals to the good and with a man up, Tigers spread the game and should have won by a bigger margin had they not been wasteful in front of goal.sheefeni@namibian.com.na
