Tobias calls for fans

NAMIBIAN boxing trainer and promoter Nestor Tobias has appealed to the business community and individuals to support the upcoming Box ‘n Dine title fights next week at the Windhoek Country Club.

The event will feature Namibian welterweight boxer Ali Nuumbembe who will have a go at the World Boxing Organisation (WBO) African title against South Africa’s Samuel Malinga on September 12.The fight will be preceded by a number of top-deck encounters pitting local boxers, with some taking on foreign opponents.Tobias said he has not found a sponsor for the event yet and appealed to any willing sponsor to come on board to make the event a big success.’I am still sitting without a sponsor, but that does not mean that the fights will not go on. We just need more support to make this event even bigger and memorable for these fighters who are ready to entertain,’ he said.Tobias said tickets will cost N$3 000 for a table seating six people and individuals can pay N$500, which includes a three-course meal. He said companies and fans still have a chance to buy tickets.’Any companies are welcome to buy a table. We are still selling the tickets and it will be great to have many businesses involved because this is a prestigious event and will serve Nuumbembe well to win the title,’ he said. Also fighting on the same night are Namibian boxers Vikapita Meroro, Sacky Shikukutu, Paulus Ambunda, Tommy Nakashimba, Julius Indongo, Pohamba Mandume, Peter Malakia, Albinu Felesianu, Gotlieb Ndokosho and Abraham Ndaedapo. Most of the locals will take on opponents from South Africa and Zimbabwe. There will also be two national title fights on the night. For more information on the sale of tickets, contact Tobias on 081 245 3349. corry@namibian.com.na
