The Namibia Wrestling Federation held a successful training camp as well as the Windhoek Open Championships at Windhoek High School over the weekend.

Teams from Centurion in South Africa and six wrestlers from Angola also competed at the event and gave a good account of themselves against Namibia’s top wrestling clubs.

Wrestlers from the age of six to senior wrestlers competed in various age group categories.

A Greco-Roman training camp was led by Namibia Wrestling Federation head coach Luis Forcelledo Paz, while a Freestyle training camp was conducted by former Springbok wrestler and coach Charl van der Merwe from Windhoek Wrestling Club.

Former Springbok coach, Gertjie van der Merwe also assisted with technical and practical skills.

Three different tournaments were held – a Greco-Roman Presidents Tournament, a Freestyle Presidents Tournament and an Open-Bracket Freestyle Tournament.

Teams performed extremely well and a high level of wrestling and refereeing was showcased at the event.
