Tracy Morgan still in critical condition

‘Saturday Night Live’ comedian Tracy Morgan is expected to spend several weeks in hospital after he sustained multiple injuries in a car crash in New Jersey on Saturday.

The ‘30 Rock’ star sustained a number of injuries – including a broken femur, a broken nose and broken ribs – after the limo bus he was travelling in overturned when a Walmart van ploughed into it on the New Jersey Turnpike.

The 45 year-old comedian, who is currently in intensive care, underwent surgery on his broken leg the morning after the accident and is now a little more responsive, but remains in a critical condition, his representative told TMZ.com.

The spokesperson added: ‘’His family is tremendously overwhelmed and appreciative of the outpouring of love and support from his fans.’’

Tracy was airlifted to Robert Wood Johnson Medical Centre in New Brunswick, along with his friend and travelling partner Ardie Fuqua. Four other people were inside the truck with Tracy and Ardie, and six vehicles in total were involved in the crash. Another passenger, James McNair, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Walmart van, Kevin Roper, has been charged with one count of death by auto and four counts of assault by auto.

Tracy was scheduled to perform at a casino in Dover, Delaware, on Friday night and was believed to be travelling back home to Bergen County, New Jersey, when the collision happened. – www.sowetan.com
