THE TransNamib board of directors has this week renewed the contract of its chief executive officer (CEO), Johny Smith, for another five years.

The parastatal’s spokesperson, Abigail Raubenheimer, confirmed the move to The Namibian on Tuesday.

“The board has made a decision to extend TransNamib CEO Johny Smith’s contract for another five years. Mr Smith’s previous contract ended on 31 January 2023,” Raubenheimer said.

TransNamib’s board members are Gaenor Michaels, Josephine Shikongo, Koos Keyser, Pombili Ndeunyema and Johanna Hatutale, with Theo Mberirua as its chairperson.

Mberirua, Ndeunyema and Hatutale came on board after the resignation of the technical adviser of the Ministry of Finance and Public Enterprises, Lionel Matthews, and Sigrid Tjijorokisa.

Michaels and Shikongo were reappointed.

Smith was first appointed as TransNamib CEO in February 2018. He replaces Hippy Tjivikua, who acted in that position after the suspension of former CEO Sara Katiti.

Smith on Tuesday confirmed the extension of his contract.

“We will remain focusing on implementing our business plan with the required resources. It is critical that we develop capacity for the company to grow it,” he said.

Prior to joining TransNamib, Smith was the CEO of the Walvis Bay Corridor Group, which constitutes a public-private partnership of transport and logistics stakeholders.
