Trigon Metals delays salary payments to Kombat Mine staff

Employees of Kombat Mine, owned by Canadian company Trigon Metals, did not receive their salaries on Wednesday.

Some employees, who spoke to The Namibian on condition of anonymity, said management failed to communicate the salary delay.

“They should have just issued a memo to say what’s going on, but there was silence,” said a staff member who opted not to be named due to fear of victimisation.

The mine’s head of operations, Fanie Muller, said a hiccup with bank accounts on Wednesday caused the delay in the salary payments.
He asked the workers to be patient.

“It’s been processed yesterday … [and] it will be released this morning. Let them be patient,” he said.

The mine issued a statement on Thursday informing staff that they are busy with the payroll.

“Good morning, Trigon Mining family. Please be kindly advised that our finance and human resources team are busy with payroll finalisation. There was a hiccup with some of the accounts of our team members and that caused a delay in payment. The pay will be in your respective banking accounts before or by no later than 26 September. We apologise for any inconvenience, caused by this technical error,” said head of environment and community sustainability Careful Kaeka.
