Trucks to deliver water to drought-hit communities – Mbumba

Nangolo Mbumba

President Nangolo Mbumba says the government is delivering water to drought-hit communities in need after encountering trouble with the supply of water from boreholes.

Namibia is facing a severe drought with water scarcity due to a lack of rainfall.

Mbumba was speaking to German broadcaster Deutsche Welle on Tuesday.

He is currently in Germany on a working visit.

“Even before I left home, I had to instruct the Office of the Prime Minister, the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister and the minister responsible for works and transport, as well as the minister responsible for agriculture and water, to make sure that trucks continue to deliver water,” he said.

The president did not indicate which areas are affected.

Mbumba said this was due to concerns that the water is “too salty” and because of weak water pressure.

“Because where we are drilling, this water is salty. The pipes we have tried to connect from the source of water, the pressure is not enough, and the only way left was to make sure that we deliver water by trucks,” he said.
