Trump withdraws US from World Health Organisation

United States (US) president Donald Trump has, via an executive order, withdrawn the US from the World Health Organisation (WHO) within hours of being sworn in as president.

The WHO works with world governments in the fight against pandemics and for the improvement of health in communities worldwide.

Trump also signed another executive order ending the right to citizenship at birth to all persons born or naturalised in the US, no matter where their parents come from. This is upheld under the 14th Amendment of the US constitution.

Trump further pardoned more than 1 500 convicted criminals who took part in the 6 January 2021 attack on the US Capitol building.

He announced that half of the short-form video-hosting service, TikTok, must be owned by the US. This follows an initial ban on the company, which now has 90 days to reconsider its ties to its Chinese parent company.
