Trump’s ‘white genocide’ narrative casts doubt on G20 attendance

In a late-night post, United States (US) president Donald Trump has again cast aspersions on South Africa’s land question and cast greater doubt on his attendance at the G20 Summit later this year.

Taking to Truth Social, Trump questioned whether they could be expected to go to South Africa for the G20 when “land confiscation and genocide” was the primary topic of conversation.

Trump also linked his post to a video sequence of Economic Freedom Fighters leader Julius Malema speaking on the issue of the expropriation of land and leading followers in the ‘kill the boer’ chant, among others.

What is clear from Trump’s latest post on South Africa is that his position and perspective has not shifted since the G20 host became a target of his presidency soon after his inauguration in January and the subsequent executive order signed in early February targeting the country.

Trump again erroneously and without evidence says that “they are taking the land of white farmers and then killing them and their families”, accusing the media of refusing to report this.

He again says the US has held back contributions to South Africa and casts doubt about attending the G20 Summit, saying ” I don’t think so”.
