Venaani criticises Namibian, African politicians for seeking medical care abroad

The Popular Democratic Movement (PDM) has criticised African ministers and presidents for allegedly failing to provide their countries with proper medical care and now seeking medical care abroad.

Venaani said this at a PDM rally at Outapi on Saturday.

“Ministers in Namibia, or the president, gets sick and run around the world – America, Japan, India, England, everywhere. And it’s not only here, every other African president, when they get sick, they go out of the country. But you have never seen a president of Germany, Japan, South Korea or any other civilised country going to another country to look for medical care,” Venaani said.

He said if a person gets sick in Namibia, they will be given panado when they visit a hospital.

He said if elected, his government will introduce universal health care in Namibia.

Venaani said Morocco and Algeria have introduced it while South Africa has adopted a policy framework for it.

Venaani also called on the renegotiation of all oil deals in Namibia. He said it is not acceptable that Namibia gets 10% from its minerals while the investors get 90%.

“If we renegotiate our wild deal, we will create jobs, better salaries for our police officers, and better houses for teachers and young people,” Venaani said.
