Venter wins Pick-a-Pro competition

Suene Venter won the Pick-a-Pro virtual betterball golf competition at the Windhoek Country Club over the weekend.

According to the competition’s rules, players had to pick a professional golfer playing at the US Open, whose round two scores were copied hole by hole to their scorecard.

Venter, who picked the eventual US Open champion, Bryson De Chambeau, won the competition with 50 points, while Jayson Zulch, who picked Thomas Detry at the US Open; and Corneels Jafta, who picked Viktor Hovland at the US Open, finished on 48 points each, with Zulch winning the count-out. 

Three golfers finished on 47 points each – Johan Geldenhuys, who picked Patrick Cantlay at the US Open; Dewaal Theunissen, who picked Tony Finau at the US Open; and Johann Archer, who picked Hovland at the US Open, with Geldenhuys winning the count-out. 

Four nearest-to-the-pin prizes were won by Daniel Nyaungwa on the third hole, Willem Triegaardt on the ninth hole, Ian Wood on the 13th hole, and Vincent Dreyer on the 17th hole. 

A total of 40 golfers competed in the tournament which was sponsored by Mori’s Golf Shop and the Sunday School.

The Windhoek Golf and Country Club will host the Asiq Optical DISF competition this coming weekend.
