NAMIBIAN visual artist Ndako Nghipandulwa is excited about the positive response he received of his artwork and now wants to establish himself as an art entrepreneur.
This potential dawned on him following his recent recognition by top South African actress Connie Ferguson on her Instagram social media account.
“I got assistance from a Namibian radio and television personality Paul Da Prince in December and we discussed making a piece for her (Ferguson) as a gift,” said Nghipandulwa.
The artist plays around with nail and string to make images on a cardboard.
After he finished the art piece on Ferguson, he sent her pictures of it and she liked it, sending her address in the response, he said.
Nghipandulwa then sent the artwork by courier to Ferguson.
Coming from a celebrity South African actress and businesswoman, the recognition of the art piece gave Nghipandulwa a lift.
Asked what inspired his artwork, he said it was difficult to pinpoint where the inspiration for the nail and string art came from because he has been experimenting with different art styles and mediums. He, however, said he enjoyed this style of art and ended up focusing on it and realised his audience responds to it the most.
In 2019 he also made an art piece for Nigerian rapper Ice Prince when he visited Namibia, and said his response was great too.
The artist hopes to reach out to as many international audiences to explore and experiment more with his work.
The creative industry is one of the less appreciated and funded sectors in Namibia, although the artist says as it has a lot of untapped potential.
