EIGHTY trainees from the Ohangwena Region had reason to celebrate last week Thursday after successfully completing training in various subjects initiated by Women’s Action for Development (WAD).
First Lady Penehupifo Pohamba also attended the graduation ceremony of the trainees during the WAD Ohangwena field day at Helao Nafidi. It was the first time since WAD’s establishment 12 years ago that a field day was held in the Ohangwena Region.WAD’s executive director, Veronica de Klerk, encouraged community members to find solutions to unemployment and poverty instead of waiting for Government handouts.”It should be remembered that Helao Nafidi is indeed the gateway to Angola, yet the people are not benefiting from the steady flows of affluent businesspeople and tourists through this gateway,” De Klerk said.WAD, a non-governmental organisation, now has a membership of over 20 000 in nine regions of the country where it is operational. The sponsors of the field day were Old Mutual Namibia, Nedbank Namibia and the Bristol-Myers Squibb Foundation.
