A Walvis Bay teenager, Anna Ndara (19), won the 2023 Junior Change Maker award at the Standard Bank Waka Kids Choice Awards ceremony on Saturday.
The ceremony took place at the National Theatre of Namibia, and is a collaboration between Waka Moo and Standard Bank, aimed at celebrating young creatives in Namibia.
The awards serve to instil values and life skills in young people and to nurture various attributes.
Ndara started the Auni Azizi Foundation in 2021, which aims to allow men to speak about their problems to help them become better citizens.
The competition involved a nomination and voting process by members of the public on the Waka Moo website.
Ndara, who was nominated alongside Christine Mboma, Loide Nambundunga, and Ananias Endjala, said she was shocked and grateful to win the award.
“I was happy and shocked, because I was nominated alongside phenomenal and popular young individuals who are doing well in their communities. I thank God for this opportunity, and also my family and friends. I am looking forward to collaborating and working with other individuals who are working in the same line as my foundation.
“This is a stepping stone for my foundation,” she said.
Ndara was also a former chief executive of the Municipality of Walvis Bay’s Junior City Council.
