The Brave Warriors will have Leonard Katti Nambandi and John Sikerete in the dugout, and not substantive head coach Collin Benjamin, for Namibia’s upcoming African Nations Championship (Chan) qualifiers.
Namibia face Lesotho over two legs in the first round of qualifying, with the first clash set for Maseru between 25 and 27 October, and the return leg scheduled between 1 to 3 November in Johannesburg.
The Namibia Football Association (NFA) announced the substitution on Friday.
The move is part of the association’s strategy of exposing homegrown coaches to a higher standard of football.
It also offers Benjamin respite from the frontlines, having been under intense pressure after the Brave Warriors fell out of contention for a ticket to the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, following four losses on the bounce.
“Both coaches hold the CAF A Diploma and are ready to lead the Brave Warriors to victory in Chan qualifiers against Lesotho,” the NFA says.
The winner of the tie will face Angola in the second round for a place at the tournament, which will jointly be held in Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda from 1 to 28 February 2025.
The competition is exclusively for players who compete in their domestic leagues.
