Watch Kathak dance at NTN

AN Indian six-member dance group performing the traditional Indian dance Kathak is visiting Namibia and is due to perform at the National Theatre of Namibia (NTN) tomorrow.

The group came to Namibia via the assistance of the Indian high commission, the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) and the government of India, in coordination with the Ministry of Education, Arts and Culture and the Namibian goverment.

The performance will start at 19h00.

Kathak is one of the great Indian classical dance forms and has evolved from an ancient story-telling tradition. The performer uses subtle hand gestures and facial expressions to tell the story. The six-member dance group is led by Purnima Roy Chowdhury, who is one of the leading exponents of this dance form and has been performing since 1998. Another show will be held at Namib Primary School at Swakopmund on Sunday, 23 October at 19h00, with free entry.

Tickets to the show are available via Computicket.
