THIS past weekend various motorcycle clubs saddled up their bikes and took the road to Karibib to participate in the first Breakfast Run for 2025.
Around 100 bikers from across Namibia and Angola took part in the annual Ubuntu Breakfast Run to kick this year off with a bang.
Contrary to beliefs that bikers are an aggressive bunch, local bikers are in it for the socialising, charity rides, open roads, the party and the food.
“Don’t be fooled by the appearance, we are actually a bunch of loving, caring and charity-driven people that do our part in the community,” Winston Straus from the Coded Motorcycle Club says.
Straus told Top Revs the name ‘Ubuntu Breakfast Run’ was chosen due to the significance the word holds in African culture, meaning ‘humanity to others’.
Starting in Windhoek and Swakopmund on Sunday morning, bikers rode in groups to Karibib for a day of mingling and sharing stories. Karibib was chosen due to the towns’ central position, between the coast and inland.
Rider Corlia Potgieter, who rides with her husband, says she loves the open road and enjoys every second on her bike.
“It’s very nice riding your own bike and having freedom on the road,” she says.
Potgieter is one of a handful of owners who rides a Suzuki Hyabusha, which is considered as one of the fastest legal street bikes on the road.
All the way from Angola, Luis Lago and his clan enjoyed every second of the run. They arrived earlier from Angola before riding to Swakopmund for a leg stretcher and then joined the local riders to Karibib.

“Namibia is always nice due to the open roads, even the small tarred roads are good to ride,” Lago says, commending local road infrastructure.
All the way from Austria and riding with his Angolan friends, Florian Morocutti enjoyed the Namibian hospitality and weather, which he describes as ideal for biking.
Namibia is renowned for its open spaces and roads, making it a haven for bikers from all walks of life.
