WHS too strong for HTS

WINDHOEK High School beat HTS 26-0 in a friendly rugby match at the HTS field on Saturday morning.

It was both schools’ first outing this year, due to the interruption of Covid-19, and their rustiness showed as the match was littered by numerous handling errors on both sides.

HTS however gave a spirited performance on their home turf, but WHS powered to a comfortable victory, scoring four tries in the process.

Their fly half Geraldo Beukes had a fine match, scoring one try and three conversions for a personal tally of 11 points, while the other tries were scored by prop Filipus Iyambo, centre Edward Turner and left wing Quirone Majiedt.

WHS’s heavier pack of forwards laid the foundation for their victory, with eighthman Riaan Grove, flanker and captain Daniel Opperman and lock Johan Schaaf catching the eye.

For HTS fly half Willis Prince stood out with his darting runs, while lock Kistings Minoyi impressed in the lineouts.

With the school rugby league having been cancelled due to Covid-19, some friendly matches have been organised which will take place over the next few weeks.
