The Women in Science initiative is a project aimed at the empowerment of school girls in Namibia in the fields of science, technology, engineering, arts, and medicine (STEAM) industries.
A select group of female pupils from all over the country attended the workshop, which YouthPaper covered in an effort to find out more about Namibia’s scientific future.
Duinesig High School – Erongo region
I believe that Namibia will be a STEAM operating country in the next 20 years.
This is because more companies and organisations are being formed to encourage school-going pupils to take up science and technology fields.
Ekwafo Senior Secondary School – Oshana region
Yes, we will be, because so many Namibians are taking part in science. Secondly, there are many science camps taking place telling us that the world is changing.
Namibia will be a STEAM-operated country in 20 years.
Coastal High School – Erongo region
Yes, because we can become the best STEAM country in 20 years to come. I believe we have an empowered generation. We also have enough raw materials to educate ourselves in order to be ready for a scientific Namibia.
Mariental Senior Secondary School – Hardap region
Yes, we will be. With the help of organisations like Girl Up and science camps like this one, it surely will.
Ekwafo Senior Secondary School – Oshana region
I think it’s possible because by then, so many people will be more educated on the types of careers they should take. I see change in the next 20 years as more people are empowered and determined to develop our country.
Sikosinyana Senior Secondary School – Zambezi region
I believe Namibia will absolutely be a STEAM-led country. Because our curriculum had been advanced in the subjects of chemistry and technical subjects will be an advantage to our country.
Dr Romanus Kampungu SSS – Kavango East region
Yes, because our country is organising science camps for young people which is empowering and motivating us to take up the right careers. I think our country will be technologically driven.
I think Namibia will become a STEAM-operated country. First of all, Namibia is one of the countries that is helped by science camps. I will be able to pass on the information to my school mates, community and the rest of the region.
